ABSTRACT: This study investigates the role of vocational education in addressing industry demand for specialized skills, focusing on aligning training programs with market needs. The objectives were to (1) identify the most in-demand specialized skills in the industry, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of current vocational training programs in providing these skills, and (3) propose strategies to enhance vocational training to meet industry demands. A survey design was employed to gather data from students, educators, and industry professionals to understand the alignment between vocational training and industry needs. The sample size included 230 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to include those with direct involvement in vocational education and industry hiring practices. The case study was conducted in Rivers State, Nigeria, an area with significant industrial activity. Findings indicated that there was a gap between the skills provided by vocational training programs and those demanded by the industry. Specialized skills such as advanced manufacturing techniques, cybersecurity, and renewable energy technologies were particularly in demand. Recommendations included updating vocational curricula to reflect current industry needs, enhancing collaboration between vocational institutions and industry, and providing ongoing professional development for educators to ensure they are equipped to teach the latest specialized skills required by the industry.
